A trail or very primitive two-track road including steep, rough, and narrow segments, often with switchbacks & possible rock crawling.

    Trail Description: The trail includes groomed graveled roads, with some rocky sections and eroded terrain.


    Directions to Trailhead: Trailer on HWY 139 to Trailhead - Apx. 22 mi. to the parking area at Rope Canyon.


    Route: Start at BLM1205, BLM1244, BLM1245, BLM1246, BLM1246, County Road 27, BLM1250, BLM1228, Couty Road 128, County Road 27, BLM1242, BLM1245, BLM1244, BLM1205.


    The Ride: This ride includes high desert and mountain terrain. Riders will experience a 48-mile ride that requires trailering 22 miles to the parking area at Rope Canyon. Enjoy the spectacular views from Brushy Point and ride along the Cathedral Bluffs. Travel through the switchbacks and keep your eyes peeled for evidence of the Freemont Ute cultures.

    Trail Description: The trail includes groomed graveled roads, eroded areas with some washed-out areas of the trail.


    Directions to Trailhead: Trailer on County Road 23 to Trailhead - Apx. 19 mi. to the parking area on County Road 23.


    Route: Start at County Road 116 -> County Road 109 -> BLM1064 -> BLM1210 -> BLM1063 -> BLM1062 -> BLM1063 -> BLM1210 -> County Road 116.


    The Ride: If you want a chance to see wild horses, this is the ride for you! Enjoy a mountain ride that features great views of the valley. There was a wildfire on Texas Mountain a few years ago, leaving behind the regenerated landscape. Upon dropping down into Oil Springs there is a steep section of trail. Riders will experience a 40 Mile ride that requires trailering 19 miles to the parking area at County Road 23.

    Trail Description: The trail includes groomed graveled roads, loose dirt, rock, and eroded areas with some washed-out area of the trail.


    Direction to Trailhead: No Trailering - Apx. 19 mi. to the parking area at CR 23.


    Route: Start at County Road 116, County Road 109. BLM1064, BLM1210, BLM1063, BLM1062, BLM1063, BLM1210, County Road 116.


    The Ride: This ride features one of the most impressive scenic overlooks of the Rangely area. This ride includes part of the recent Dead Dog Fire that occurred in Rangely spring of 2017. Enjoy slick rock riding, dry creek crossings, and riding up the creek bottom. Riders will experience a 25-mile ride.

    Trail Description: This trail is mostly two-track, off-camber with rocky faces and ledges along with groomed graveled roads. Expect to have washed out sections of trail, deep ruts, and stream crossings.


    Direction to Trailhead: No Trailering.


    Route: Start at County Road 104, BLM1040, BLM1042, County Road 104


    The Ride: Enjoy steep draws, tight turns, and narrow trails during this ride. Ride through the canyon and pop up on the ridge to experience beautiful vistas from the top of Big Ridge. Riders will experience a 30-mile ride that leaves from Rangely.

    Trail Description: The trail includes groomed graveled road, rocky sections, and loose gravel.


    Direction to Trailhead: No Trailering


    Route: Start at County Road 2, BLM1071, BLM1070, County Road 23, CR113, BLM1045A, BLM1072, County Road 2


    The Ride: This ride features one of the most impressive scenic overlooks of the Rangely area. This ride includes part of the recent Dead Dog Fire that occurred in Rangely spring of 2017. Enjoy slick rock riding, dry creek crossings, and riding up the creek bottom. Riders will experience a 25-mile ride.

Trail conditions can change rapidly during and immediately after spring runoff and heavy thunderstorms. It is unlawful to gain access to public lands by trespassing on private property. Never assume access, always seek permission!



Note: The ratings for these trails are based on a subjective comparison of trails within this system only. Newcomers are encouraged to begin their riding experience on a "beginner" trail. This will establish a base for moving onto an "intermediate" or "expert" trail segment. Riders assume all risks associated with skill level, trail difficulty, and conditions. The Town of Rangely, Rio Blanco County, and Rangely Chamber of Commerce is not responsible for the accuracy of trail designations and classifications.
